ICA CASEY COLLEGE – SAVING OUR COMMUNITY’S WATER
ICA Casey College has received $32,714 in Round 3 of Community Water Grants and is proud to work together with the Australian Government to help improve water efficiency within our community.
The funds have been used to provide a sustainable water supply for irrigating the school oval by harvesting rainwater.
Two 40,000 litre tanks have been installed to capture overflow rainwater. The rainwater is pumped and stored in the two tanks. ICA Casey College already had a system in which all downpipes on the school’s main building are diverted to a 55,000 litre tank to flush the school’s toilets. The new system ensures that sufficient water remains in the 55,000 litre tank to flush the toilets and excess rainwater is pumped and stored in the two new tanks to irrigate the oval.
The new tanks are expected to result in an increase of water savings from 854,100 litres per year to 1,539,004 litres per year.
The oval is used by students of the school and by community groups. |
