School Bus and Transport Information

ICA Casey College operates its own bus service for its students. The cost depends on whether the student resides in Zone 1 or Zone 2.

For all bookings (permanent, and casual), please contact our office on 8796 6400. We ask that, where possible, at least 24 hours notice is given for changes to bookings. Invoices for bus transport use are sent to families each month.

CONVEYANCE ALLOWANCE

In some locations, students may receive a Conveyance Allowance to assist with travel costs.  The Conveyance Allowance is administered by the Victorian Government’s Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD).  For eligible students, the allowance can be applied to the use of public transport, private cars, school-owned buses,  privately contracted (charter) bus services and taxis.  A range of allowances based upon the distance travelled is available.

Eligibility: To be eligible to receive a Conveyance Allowance a student must live more than 4.8km by the shortest practicable route from the nearest “appropriate registered school”.

Students may be able to claim an allowance if ICA Casey College is their nearest non-denominational school.

If the student is not attending the nearest “appropriate registered school”, to be eligible for the conveyance allowance, they must have a letter from their nearest school stating that an enrolment place in not available for them.

Modes of Transport: Students must use the most economical mode of transport between home and school.  This includes taking full advantage of fare concessions where available.  A private bus or private car conveyance allowance is not available if the journey could have been made using a  public transport service.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:  All fares are fully refundable based on the assumption that a yearly ticket is purchased.

PRIVATE CAR:  A Conveyance Allowance for private car travel is calculated on distance travelled between the student’s place of residence and their school (using the shortest practicable route to school) and the number of students in the vehicle.  A private car conveyance allowance is not available if the journey could have been made using a public transport service.

SCHOOL BUS (PRIVATE BUS):  All users of the College bus, regardless of their proximity to the College, are required to pay a fare to help defray the cost of the bus service. Some families may be eligible to receive the Conveyance Allowance for the bus service. A Private Bus Student Conveyance Allowance is not available if the journey could have been made using a public transport service.

MULTI-MODE TRAVEL:  Where a student uses more than one mode of transport (i.e. private and public transport) an allowance may be available for each mode of transport in excess of 4.8 km.

How To Apply: The Private Car Conveyance Allowance Application form, the Public Transport/Other Conveyance Allowance Application form and the Private Bus Travel Student Conveyance Allowance Application form are all available from the school office or you can download them from below.

Families of students seeking to apply for the Conveyance Allowance will need to complete an application form and lodge it at the College office for processing and lodgement with DEECD.

Parents/guardians may be asked to provide additional documentation to verify compliance with DEECD requirements.

An application by a parent/guardian for an allowance after the submission of the first half-year claim by the school (for the current year)  will be carried forward to the next half-year claim.

Parents/guardians are responsible for notifying the College of any changes to the information noted on the forms.

Allowances are paid to parents/guardians once payment has been received by ICA Casey College from DEECD.

ICA Casey College is responsible for the day-to-day administration of conveyance allowances.  School claims are submitted each semester.
